So you know when a talented musician (or otherwise) likes another's work so much that they want to give it the highest tribute by recording their own version . . . or they just want to **** the song in the *** entirely. Anyway, here's a study; you decide if it's "Hells Yeah BitCH!" or "Oh fuck . . no . . . please stop". P.S.: Here I only present the originals of good songs . . . otherwise it would defeat the purpose. ================ ================ Original:
Title: "Running Up That Hill" Artist/Band: Kate Bush
Kick ass right? Yeah I could only find some weird animal video due to YouTube's sudden grasp of the sublime laws.
THEGood:
Title: "Running Up That Hill" Artist/Band: Placebo
Yes this is the official video . . . parts of the winning fan-vids mixed to create one of the most effective music videos of all time So Brian really outdid himself here. Anyway . . . onto the horror.
THEBad:
Title: "Running Up That Hill" Artist/Band: Within (****ing) Temptation
Okay so it's really quite awesome until 00:37 , but . . . I want to know the exact words that were said when this very very deluded woman presented the idea of going near this song.
================
Onto something newer and maybe more familiar.
Original:
Title: "Run" Artist/Band: Snow Patrol
For me Snow Patrol is one of those bands (no I don't mean Evanescence) that I wouldn't say I 'like' but I do occasionally listen to some of there songs, and since Christmas this one has stuck with me.
THEBad:
Title: "Run" Artist/Band: Leona Lewis
You know what's even more unreal about this? A YouTube user woke me up to the fact that she also covered the video. Seriously. I'll let it speak for itself.
================ Original:
Title: "Summer Wine" Artist/Band: Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood
So this is a song that is only kind of cool since it's so vintage. Then . . .
THEGood:
Title: "Summer Wine" Artist/Band: Ville Vallo & Natalia Avelon
Suddenly you realize that Ville Vallo is not just an egotistical black-idol but someone with an amazing voice completely misusing it. Rarely does a cover outdo the original.
================
Original:
Title: "Ziggy Stardust" Artist/Band: David Bowie
So this is one of the most amazing songs ever . . . like ever. I don't know what to say.
THEGood:
Title: "Ziggy Stardust" Artist/Band: AFI
Yes . . . It's good. See how candyhappy he is?
THEReallyGood:
Title: "Ziggy Stardust" Artist/Band: Bauhaus
As my sister says: It's like 80s punk made love to Bowie.
================
Original:
Title: "Anyone Else But You" Artist/Band: The Moldy Peaches
Undeniably great . . . though made famous by Juno.
THEGood:
Title: "Anyone Else But You" Artist/Band: Ellen Page & Michael Cera
This was just. Yeah. Anyone who loves Juno (those who don't: "Who do you think you are?") will get it.
================
Original:
Title: "2oth Century Boy" Artist/Band: T-Rex
Shining, Undiluted, SEX.
THEGood(SO GOOD):
Title: "20th Century Boy" Artist/Band: Placebo
So they retained that Undiluted Sex and made it their own. Whoever made this video is a genius by the way.
================
Original
Title: "Under The Bridge" Artist/Band: The Red Hot Chili Peppers
THEBad
Title: Under The Bridge Artist/Band: All Saints
Again the beginning is good until 00:29. Something to take note of is that they missed the entire point of the song because they changed the lyric from 'She' to 'He'.
================
Original
Title: "Teenage Dirtbag" Artist/Band: Wheatus
Anyone who had ears (or older sisters) at the time this came out will know that it's just from another time and never gets old.
THEBad:
Title: Teenage Dirtbag Artist/Band: Girls Aloud
Again with the 'His'. Couldn't they have found some other reason to wear school-girl outfits?
================
Original:
Title: "The Unforgiven" Artist/Band: Metallica
One of my alltime favourite songs.
THEGood
Title: "The Unforgiven" Artist/Band: Apocalyptica
Again one of my alltime favourite songs.
THEBad:
Title: "The Unforgiven" Artist/Band: Stefanie Heinzmann
During my time in Switzerland I heard this play on the radio. Again missing the point entirely. The song is about James' life and not some overly-emotional yuppie. And the whole German-pop thing? She's really not doing well for the female side of the music industry.
================ Again we have Metallica, Apocalyptica's beautiful rendition then some punk*** dumb ***** ***** doing 'her' thing.
Phil Collins has one of the best voices the world has ever known.
THEGood:
Title: "Land of Confusion" Artist/Band: Disturbed
This is the real video featuring their mascot and not some Japanese fan ****. Disturbed - without question - is my favourite band and this is almost as good as their other 80s cover: "Shout 200" by Tears For Fears.
So yesterday we were going to do the "Everything" Skit giving Cate her chance to shine (or something) in the main role . . . BUUUT . . the PO-lice said we couldn't Just trampled us into the dust But I met a sheep who hates them more than me and I took yet another wad of splendid photos. ===================
And by the end of the day I had broken the lense of my sister's beautiful camera.
You know how it is. Someone takes the pictures in Uxbridge on their phone then says somebody else has them then you don't have time to take them off the home's shared so later you eventually save the few you want from your sister's Blog (yes she beat me to it, the one time she decides to update).
Taking a break after three or so performances. Our half-brooding-half-smiling look is perfectly executed. ------------------------- We're going to Reading tomorrow for Round 2. Well except that Auntie Amber left merry England and Heather has been worn out so Cate shall take her place in the main role.
Hold your breath for updates. We'reallhavingmorefunthanyou.
Last week we went to Uxbridge and performed the "Everything" Skit 7 times, always to an awesome crowd. It was loads of fun but extremely exhausting. We had met Becky & Izzy who played the drunks 30 minutes or so before they decided to join in. See if you can spot me seducing Heather with my wonderful money. This was one of the last performances so excuse my acting being weak as f . . .
